The two largest fires, the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades and the Eaton Fire near Pasadena remain active. One of the latest, the Hughes Fire in the Castaic area, has prompted evacuation orders for tens of thousands of people.\u00a0 Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/fire.ca.gov\">fire.ca.gov<\/a> to see the latest progress made by the large team of firefighters battling these fires.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Ready, Set Go!\u00a0 Are you prepared for an urban fire?<\/h3>\n<p>The International Association of Fire Chiefs launched the &#8220;<a title=\"Ready, Set, Go!\" href=\"http:\/\/wildlandfirersg.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ready, Set, Go!<\/a>&#8221; program nationally in 2011. Texas is very active with nearly 400 members.<\/p>\n&#8220;Ready, Set, Go!&#8221; is administered at the fire department level. The program helps your community learn how to protect homes ahead of time, stay abreast of current fire dangers and evacuate safely if a wildfire is bearing down on your community. It&#8217;s based on a three-prong approach:\n<ul>\n<li>Ready: Your home and family should be ready long before a wildfire ignites. Creating defensible space through\u00a0<a title=\"Firewise Landscaping in Texas\" href=\"https:\/\/tfsweb.tamu.edu\/uploadedFiles\/TFSMain\/Preparing_for_Wildfires\/Prepare_Your_Home_for_Wildfires\/Contact_Us\/EDITED%202012firelandscape.pdf\">proper landscaping techniques<\/a>\u00a0(PDF, 13MB)\u00a0and using\u00a0<a title=\"Fire Resistant Materials\" href=\"https:\/\/tfsweb.tamu.edu\/uploadedFiles\/TFSMain\/Preparing_for_Wildfires\/Prepare_Your_Home_for_Wildfires\/Contact_Us\/Firewise%20construction.pdf\">fire resistant building materials<\/a>\u00a0(PDF, 2MB)\u00a0designed to withstand a wildfire are part of this step.<\/li>\n<li>Set: When a wildfire is headed your way, it&#8217;s time to start preparing to leave. Alert your family and friends. Stay tuned to news reports. Grab your emergency kit, and be ready to head out at a moment&#8217;s notice. Make sure you know where you&#8217;re going and what you&#8217;re taking with you. The\u00a0<a title=\"American Red Cross\" href=\"http:\/\/www.redcross.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Red Cross<\/a>\u00a0can provide shelter and basic necessities during a disaster and can help you get back on your feet after it&#8217;s over.<\/li>\n<li>Go! Once the fire is bearing down on you, there is often nothing you can do but get out of its way. At this point, it&#8217;s time to go!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nDon&#8217;t wait. Nearly the entire Texas House and Texas Senate voted in favor of SB1794 in the Texas 88th Legislature, with every member of the Bexar County legislative delegation voting in favor of it.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/politics\/article\/bexar-county-emergency-services-districts-debt-18104929.php#photo-23901447\">Read the full Express-News article.<\/a><\/p>\n\t<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\t<h3>Advocation for continuous improvement of services.<\/h3>\n<p>The Bexar County ESD Association actively works with Texas legislators and local governments to improve Fire and EMS services. They identify key legislative needs, develop and advocate for related bills, educate policymakers, and monitor legislative progress.
